WELCOME FROM OUR PRESIDENT
HOWDY, and welcome as we begin another year of activities for Aggie Moms. If you are the Mom of a new student, a returning student, or a former student of Texas A&M University, then this club is for you! Our club’s purpose is “by individual and united efforts to contribute in every way possible to the comfort and welfare of the students and to cooperate with Faculty in maintaining a high standard of moral conduct and intellectual attainment at all times at the University.” Whew! What a lofty goal we set ourselves – and as all Moms know, this is a labor of love, for there is just not much we Moms won’t do to help our Aggies along on the path to success.
Joining Aggie Moms gives you an automatic network of families who will help you and your student through the four (or five, or six) years at A&M. At Aggie Moms you can learn many “favorite ways” to get to A&M, and the best bathroom, food, or shopping stops along the way. You may be able to find football tickets, a hotel room, or a ride to or from A&M through new friends made at a meeting. I have witnessed friends at Aggie Moms “brag” of their Aggie’s accomplishments at A&M, celebrate engagements, weddings, showers, new jobs, new grandchildren and more. I have also seen Aggie Moms make phone calls, send cards, food, gifts, offer transportation and lodging, and of course, hugs and prayer, during the difficulties of accident, illness and bereavement, or just bad grades, bad luck, or bad romances. We are all Moms, and we are there for each other whether mountain or molehill, triumph or tragedy.
There is a saying at A&M, “once an Aggie, always an Aggie.” We add, “once an Aggie Mom, always an Aggie Mom.” In order to fully appreciate the benefits of any organization, though, we must be willing to participate. With most things in life we get out of it what we put into it, and with that in mind I hope that you will complete the enclosed membership application, and then turn it over and indicate the ways you would like to become actively involved, and to get better acquainted with other Moms. You may find, as I have, that you are not only making new friends, but renewing old friendships as well.
I hope to you see August 18, or at any meeting this year; we love to see all our friends, both old and new. Come join us.
Nevie Lacy
President

OUR SUMMER HAS SIZZLED!!!
We have already had several exciting opportunities to “Connect” with A&M on a local basis this summer. The San Angelo A&M Club sponsored a visit from Reveille and the Yell Leaders, and several Moms attended and got to have their picture made with Reveille. Then the Aggie Moms hosted their first Meet and Greet event on July 23rd. In addition to sandwiches and delicious homemade ice cream we enjoyed our visit to the Depot, and the Aggie Train that was running that day. We gave lots of door prizes to those who attended, and had the opportunity to meet and make welcome several new Aggies and Fish Moms. A Hearty WELCOME to all Aggie Moms. We hope you will join our club and join us in the fun and camaraderie of being an Aggie Mom.
WHAT’S NEW THIS YEAR?
We hope that in the year ahead we can continue to uphold Tradition, which is such an important aspect of the Aggie experience, even as we look for new ways to make this organization even better and more reflective of the needs of our students and their biggest supporters, their Moms. This year we will try to embrace the best of an old and a new tradition of San Angelo Aggie Moms. We will continue to have our August Kickoff and Goodie Bag meetings at Trinity Lutheran, but we will return to the older tradition of meetings in members’ homes for other meetings. We will be letting you know about those locations in the weeks ahead. One other exciting event coming this year is the Singing Cadets concert on January 12. If you have never heard the Cadets sing, then you are in for a treat; if you have never hosted a Cadet in your home, then you are in for another treat! We also have a special surprise planned for Christmas this year. Join us at our August 18 meeting for details on these and other upcoming events.
HOMES NEEDED
Some of the meetings this year will be held in homes. We are currently needing homes for the following months: February, April and May. If you are interested in hosting the meeting in your home or would like more information about this, contact Suzy Mears at 944-9146 or by emailing her at suzy@mohairusa.com
ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP – Goal Met!
WHOOP! We have met our goal for raising $10,000 in new money toward the San Angelo A&M Moms’ Endowed Scholarship and were able to match this with an additional 10,000 that we had in savings. The San Angelo Area Foundation then matched it with $20,000. Thank you to everyone who made this a successful endeavor.
NEW AGGIE MOM COOKBOOK
Over the next year San Angelo Aggie Moms will be putting together a new cookbook with the delivery date January 2007. This will give us plenty of time to get the recipes typed in, proofread, and submitted to the publisher. We will have time to proof again once the book is delivered before taking it to Boutique in April of 2007. The main theme for this cookbook will be occasions and we will also feature family menus. We have narrowed down our categories to the following:
- Fall Feasts and Festivals – pretty much self explanatory
- Girls Night Out – Bunko, Bridge, Aggie Mom Sleepovers, Meetings, etc.
- When They All Come Home – Holidays, Family Reunions, Celebrations such as Christenings, Graduation, Birthdays, etc.
- Showers and Brunches – Weddings, Showers, Brunches, Coffees, and Teas
- Tailgating and Bowl Parties – pretty much self explanatory.
If anyone would like to put a menu in for one of the dividers listed above we will be charging $25 per menu submitted. For more information on this, please contact Lanee Warrick at 484-3005 laneewarrick@aggienetwork.com or Debbie Lisoski at 469-3935 dlisoski@saisd.org
We have enclosed a form to be used to send us your recipes or to bring them to the next few meetings. Please feel free to make copies of the form for additional recipes.
