PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Howdy, and Happy Holidays to all. Our Goody Bag meeting in November was fun. I loved ringing that cowbell and giving away those door prizes! We went through hoops together, and learned that as a group we can accomplish tasks that at first seem impossible. I hope your students enjoyed receiving their Goody Bags over the Thanksgiving break, and that this finds all the Thanksgiving leftovers eaten, the messy floors mopped, and your minds turned toward anticipating the pleasures of the holidays ahead. We have a very special meeting planned for December, and I hope you will mark your calendars and plan to attend at 6:30 pm on Thursday, December 8.
This year we will meet at the Turner Ranch at Water Valley, Texas where we will share our snacks, visit, and enjoy an evening with Elmer Kelton, West Texan and Western Novelist extraordinaire. If you have never heard Mr. Kelton speak, then you are in for a treat! You may travel on your own directly to the Turner Ranch (directions in this newsletter), or meet up with us at Trinity Lutheran Church on Loop 306 at 6:00 pm to carpool or convoy. Please, no gifts – just bring your favorite salty or sweet snack for a heavy hors d’oeuvres supper. Tim and Judy Turner, our hosts, are opening their home for us, and will provide beverages. Judy is a collector of nativities, and I am looking forward to our visit. I hope to see you there. Spouses welcome.
In the weeks ahead you may be receiving phone calls from our telephone committee regarding final details for the Singing Cadets Concert on Thursday, January 12, 2005. We still need sponsors and Host homes. If you can help in either of these areas, please contact Suzy Mears. A sponsorship of as little as $25.00 can be a great help in offsetting the expenses of this concert, and we will be listing all our sponsors in the program for the event. Please consider helping out in this way, if you are able. There is more information on the concert elsewhere in this publication.
I hope to be seeing you for Christmas at the Turner Ranch with Elmer Kelton, on Thursday, December 8.
Gig ‘em,
Nevie Lacy

NEW AGGIE MOM COOKBOOK
Over the next year San Angelo Aggie Moms will be putting together a new cookbook with the delivery date scheduled for January 2007. This will give us plenty of time to get the recipes typed in, proofread, and submitted to the publisher. We will have time to proof again once the book is delivered before taking it to Boutique in April of 2007. The main theme for this cookbook will be occasions and we will also feature favorite family menus. We have narrowed down our categories to the following:
- Fall Feasts and Festivals – pretty much self explanatory
- Girls Night Out – Bunko, Bridge, Aggie Mom Sleepovers, Meetings, etc.
- When They All Come Home – Holidays, Family Reunions, Celebrations such as Christenings, Graduation, Birthdays, etc.
- Showers and Brunches – Weddings, Showers, Brunches, Coffees, and Teas
- Tailgating and Bowl Parties – pretty much self explanatory
If anyone would like to submit an entire menu for one of the dividers listed above, we will be charging $25 per menu submitted. You can put as many recipes as you would like at no charge. For more information on this, please contact Lanee Warrick at 484-3005 laneewarrick@aggienetwork.com or Debbie Lisoski at 469-3935 dlisoski@saisd.org.
We have enclosed a form to be used to submit your recipes or to bring them to the next few meetings. We would like to have these in by the November meeting. Please feel free to make copies of the form for additional recipes.
We would like to have current members send in their recipes by December 1.
NEW AGGIE MOM COOKBOOK COVER
Benjamin Knox has generously agreed to do the cover for the next cookbook. He would like to have a commitment from someone in the club or the community to purchase the piece ($2,000 -$4,000) and he will expedite it. If not, he will do it at no charge and sell it from his gallery in College Station. If anyone is interested or knows of anyone interested in purchasing this original piece of artwork, please contact Nevie Lacy( 651-4532 nevnews@aol.com) or Lanee Warrick (484-3005 laneewarrick@aggientwork.com)

TEST ANXIETY
A moderate level of stress before and during an exam is useful, as it helps a student perform at their peak. Too much stress, or test anxiety, can keep a student from being able to focus at the task at hand. If your student is feeling overwhelmed by upcoming final exams, encourage them and keep in mind these tips for overcoming test anxiety:
Before the exam:
- Manage your time well: get plenty sleep, find time to exercise or be active, and schedule time to study
- Focus on healthy behaviors: eat regular meals, drink water and other non-alcoholic beverages, chose healthy snacks (excessive sugar can make you drowsy), limit caffeine - it increases anxiety
- Study in places that have minimal distractions
- Take notes of your notes and chapters, use flash cards, or try to condense your notes each time you review for the next review
- Quiz yourself or work with a friend to test each other
During an exam:
- When you are taking a test, keep positive thoughts in your mind (yes, you can!)
- Read all directions thoroughly
- Read all questions carefully
- Take a deep breath, stay focused, and STOP negative thoughts

Also Lanee is requesting the pictures for the power point presentation at the Singing Cadet Concert by to her no later than December 1st.

Plans for the arrival of the cadets, entertainment until concert, evening meal, and lodging both for cadets and others were discussed. Also discussed was the need for more host homes as well as the duties of the host homes. Publicity for the concert is well in hand. At this time lists were passed around for those wishing to sign up to be on a telephone committee, a hostess committee or those wishing to open their homes as a host home.
Nevie asked for an update on December graduates.
