Howdy Aggie Moms!
I don’t know about you, but I had a GREAT Thanksgiving!
We had a house full for the long weekend, and Friday, the day of “the” game, was designated as our family gathering time.
Joy reported to us the predictions of the “pessimist” and the “optimist” in last week’s Battalion . . . the pessimist predicted a t.u. win with a score of something like 60-3, while the optimist also predicted a t.u. win, but with a score of 36-7.
You get the idea – nobody really thought the Aggies could pull out a victory.
Even though the final outcome of the game was not decided until the final minutes (a habit that seems to have caught on this year) the Aggies played probably their best game of the year.
Everyday is a great day to be an Aggie, but last Friday was especially sweet.
We are fast approaching the end of 2006.
Our club goal was to raise $10,000 in “new” money this year in order to take full advantage of the matching grant available through the San Angelo Area Foundation.
We are very close to reaching this goal!
We have less than $1,500 to go to get the full matching amount available.
If you have not already made a contribution to this effort, I hope that you will consider doing so.
Some of you may have been waiting until results of other fundraising efforts were in.
If this is you, then now is the time to chip in!
Every contribution is important, regardless of the amount, and we have proven over and over that working together, we can accomplish great things.
The establishment of the endowed scholarship and the success of San Angelo Aggie Moms in securing the full matching amount two years in a row is a remarkable achievement for our club.
Remember that each dollar raised results in a $4 addition to our endowed scholarship fund.
To make a contribution to this effort, please make your check payable to San Angelo Area Foundation and mail to our club address at
P.O. Box 62314,
San Angelo,
TX
76906.
We’ll all celebrate together when we’re over the top!
I would like to extend a special thank you to Judy Lacy for creating a quilt square that will represent San Angelo Aggie Moms on the Federation quilt that will be presented to President Helen Haliburton at the end of the year.
Judy cheerfully took on the task and used her creativity to piece a lovely interpretation of this year’s Federation theme, “Aggie Moms-A Flame that Warms the Heart.”
The pieced quilt will be displayed at the luncheon held on Parent’s Weekend in April, so if you missed my showing off the photograph of our quilt square at the November meeting, you can get a glimpse of it in April.
At our November membership meeting, we put together the fall goodie boxes.
Thanks to
Donna Palmer and Nancy Brockman for finding some functional plastic boxes to hold all of the goodies, and for organizing this effort.
My Aggie was delighted with her box – and its contents.
Also at our November meeting, we had the opportunity to vote on student organizations that would receive support from our club this year.
All of the groups mentioned are assets to Aggie life, and it is wonderful that our kids have so many options as to where they invest their time and energy outside of class.
The ten groups voted to receive our support are:
Carpool
Singing Cadets
Aggie Access
Project Sunshine
Women’s Chorus
Aggie Band
Big Event
Alternative Spring Break
Aggie
EMS
Silver Taps
Thank you everyone for your input and interest!
We have a large group of area Aggies who will walk across the stage in December.
Whoop!
Congratulations to each of them and to their moms who have been the encouragers, listeners, check-writers, cookie bakers, and pray-ers back home.
We are proud of each one who has completed their work at A&M and we look forward to hearing of their future success.
(December graduates are listed later in this newsletter.)
I am looking forward to our Christmas party, scheduled for Thursday, December 7 at the Historic Orient-Santa Fe Depot in
San Angelo.
Family members are invited and welcome to attend.
All are asked to bring a food item to share, and we will enjoy a presentation by Cindy Jordan, song writer and inspirational speaker.
We will keep our business meeting brief so that we can just enjoy each other’s company and the spirit of the season.
I hope you will join us!
In this holiday season, I hope that each of you will take the time to enjoy every precious minute with your family, and that you will take to heart the true meaning of Christmas.
For anyone who has not seen the latest promotional video about Texas A&M, I hope you will go to this website and view it.
It’s great!

May the joy of the season be yours!

AGGIE MOMS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND UPDATE
It’s December! 2006 has been a remarkable year for our club.
Last January, we hosted the Singing Cadets and we raised the final amount necessary to increase our Endowed Scholarship by $40,000.
With the year drawing to a close, we are again trying to add another $40,000 to our endowment.
Our efforts have included the spring garage sale, Aggie Moms Boutique, sponsorships of our new cookbook, a portion of membership dues, proceeds from
A Place at Our Table, and specific contributions towards the endowed scholarship fund.
We are just about $1,300 short of raising the $10,000 necessary to ensure the full match by our club and then by the San Angelo Health Foundation.
If you have been intending to make a contribution to this effort but for some reason have not done so yet, then now is the time to send in your check.
Please make your check payable to the San Angelo Area Foundation and either bring it with you Thursday night to our Christmas Party, or mail to our club address, which is
P.O. Box 62314,
San Angelo,
Texas
76906.
We hope to take a check to the Area Foundation the first week of the new year.
Your investment in this fund will allow us to continue our tradition of helping area Aggies.
Theresa Michalewicz was the very first recipient of the San Angelo Aggie Moms Endowed Scholarship, and below is a letter we received from her recently.
I have never met Theresa personally, but I think you will agree after reading her letter that she is an outstanding student, and one we can be proud to have supported.
Thank you for your continuous support and your
West Texas generosity!
Together, we can accomplish great things!
Howdy Aggie Moms!
With the recent posting of midterm grades, I thought as the donor of my scholarship, you would also appreciate a midterm update of my first semester at
Texas
A&M
University.
Since classes first began on August 28th, my college experience has been the usual mixture of making new friends, going to class, studying, and becoming involved in organizations while also having fun.
I think I can honestly say I correctly anticipated many of the challenges, responsibilities, commitments, and the fun of college life.
My classes are going well and have had their share of ups and downs, but as a whole, I have learned so much new information that I find myself applying to everyday occurrences.
I am happy with the mixture of classes I chose for my first semester.
I am continually amazed at how information learned in one class influences what I learn in another.
I am happy to report that I was granted membership to the Business Student Council and serve on the technology sub committee because of my past experience with technology in high school.
The application process itself was quite rigorous.
We were required to submit answers to three specific questions, a one page resume, and an ad to promote ourselves and why our selection to BSC would benefit the organization and ourselves.
The second step to the process was being called back for interviews.
Approximately 80 applicants were asked to come to interviews.
During my interview, I received praise for the details in my application that set it apart from other applications received.
I love the people on the council and the vast opportunities it has created, and will continue to create in the future.
Off campus, I am also continuing my prior involvement as a lector at Sunday Masses at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
As this semester begins towards coming to an end, my focus is to continue to do well in my classes, choose another good mix of courses for next semester, and of course, to continue to enjoy the college experience.
I look forward to these things and will let you know how the second half of this semester went, as well as talk more about my long term goals in the letter I will send in December.
Sincerely,
Theresa Michalewicz
