LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Howdy [firstname]& Happy Valentines Day!!

Howdy!

What a good time we had in Sonora! Those of you who missed it, missed lots of good food, fellowship and shopping. The Sonora Moms’ are great, and it was nice to hear about all of the Sonora Aggies. A special treat was guest Ashley Brockman ’03, December Graduate. It was nice to hear about her job and the special things she said about Aggie Moms’. Thank you Ashley for being the wonderful Aggie you are.

Ladies we have an extremely busy spring ahead and one which I am certainly looking forward to. Our next meeting will be very special, with the Sweet Adelines, entertaining us in grand style. Two of our own members are part of this group, Chris Hunter and Jet Mc Garvey. I assure you this is something you do not want to miss; we had a small prelude to this outstanding group in December. WOW! So come and let them entertain us.

February 26, we will have our Ring of Honor meeting, contact Betty Baden, for more information and if you can come. It is wonderful time to share lunch and catch up on our graduates.

On March 6th, we will be having our annual garage sale at the Santa Rita Gymnasium. It is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and one that we can all participate in. It is a great time to be together and work together for our Aggies. Ginger has done an outstanding job organizing the event this year. Let’s rally behind her and let her enthusiasm rub off on us and have the greatest garage sale ever.

Our March 18th meeting will feature Mike Boyd. As most of you know Mike, recently served in the war in Iraq. It will be a most interesting meeting, one I hope we can all attend. At this meeting we are inviting all of the husbands to come and anyone else you would like to bring. We wish to share this opportunity with as many as we can.

On March 20th, we will be having a district meeting in Coleman. I hope that several of us can attend, it sounds like it is going to be a great meeting. Let’s go and bring back new ideas for our club! The theme for this year is Old Lace and Teacups, and it will be held in the Historic home of Doodie Taylor-Knox. Please be thinking about traveling to Coleman on March 20th, I know we would all have a great time.

Please remind your Aggies, about the tutorial scholarships. The format is still the same as last semester. The student must e-mail Kay Young at bkhyoung@wcc.net , to request the tutorial scholarship. Please have them put “Tutorial Scholarship in the subject line.”

Also, we need to remind our Aggies of the Semester scholarships we will be choosing for the fall semester of 04. They can download the applications from our web site, www.sanangeloaggiemoms.org. The selections for these $1,000 scholarships will take place in April.

Moms’, I need for you to contact me and let me know who will be graduating in May. Please include their class year.

FEBRUARY MEETING

AGGIE MOM SLEEPOVER

Thurs. February 19, 6:30 p.m.
The annual Aggie Mom Sleepover is scheduled for Friday, February 20 at J. Ann Lange’s hunting lodge (map shown below). If you will be attending you need to let J. Ann (835-6891) know by Thursday, Feb. 19 so that she will have enough supplies on hand for the Aggie Mom Keepsakes that you will be making. In addition everyone will need to bring a covered dish or snack (along with the recipe) and $5 to help cover the expense of the supplies.

AGGIE MOM SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

The Aggie Moms’ Scholarship application will be available to be downloaded on Monday, March 1. The scholarships awarded are for $1,000 for the academic year 2004-2005. A student must have completed 2 full semesters at Texas A&M University and be from the San Angelo and vicinity area. The scholarship winners will be announced at the May meeting.

TUTORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria
· We have 60 scholarships of $50 each on a first come, first serve basis.
· It is necessary for the scholarship to be requested in advance by e-mail to Kay Young at bkhyoung@wcc.net. Please put “Tutorial Scholarship” in the subject line area of the email.
· Any student from our area enrolled at Texas A&M University may apply.
· The tutorial scholarship will be valid from the day issued until May 14, 2004.
· It will be advertised by publishing it on the web, e-mail, newsletter, distributed with the food coupons and area newspaper.
· We must have the student’s name, mailing address, parent’s address and student id for the tutorial coupon.
· The student can only use tutorial sources listed on the coupon.

IT’S HERE! GARAGE SALE

Saturday, March 6
The garage sale has been set for Saturday, March 6 at the Santa Rita Gym. We will start setting up around 5 p.m. on Friday, March 5. Please bring tables, hanging racks, plastic sacks, hangers and lots of items to sell! If you have any questions, please call Ginger Bruton at 949-0395 or 949-2050. This has always been a great fundraiser for our scholarship so let’s get busy and not let our Aggies down!

RING OF HONOR

Thursday, February 26
The Ring of Honor meeting will be held on Thursday, February 26 at Cheddars at 11 a.m. Please contact Betty Baden at 942-9275 if you plan to attend or if you need more information.

SPRING GOODY BAGS

The spring Goody Bag date has been changed to the April meeting. Be sure to watch the “After Valentine Sales” and the “After Easter Sales” for great bargains for the Goody Bags. The April meeting will be held on Thursday, April 15, which is the day before Parent’s Weekend.

Aggie Mom Boutique

Aggie Mom Boutique is held during Parent’s Weekend on Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17. Ginger Bruton will be taking our cookbooks down to sell during this time. If any of you are planning on traveling to A&M for Parent’s Weekend and can help out at any time, please let Ginger know (949-0395 or 949-2050).

MAY & AUGUST 2004 GRADUATES

If you have an Aggie graduating in May or August, please call Paula Sweeten at (658-7015). If you are leaving a message, please be sure to include your Aggie’s name and class year (which is not necessarily the year they graduated!).

COOKBOOKS

We still have cookbooks available. They will be available at all meetings or you may pick them up at Allen Young Office Machines (60 North Chadbourne) or Talley Printing. If you cannot make it downtown during business hours, call Kay Young (944-7038), Penny Tally (655-7361), or Ginger Bruton (949-0395 or 949-2050). They make great Christmas and wedding gifts!

DOOR PRIZES ALWAYS NEEDED

Everyone loves door prizes – and we need donations! If you are in Aggieland and see something that you would like to receive (in the $5 range), please bring it to Debbie Lisoski at the next meeting.

Tom Ben Williams ’04 (Aggie Mom, Elaine Williams) made a 4.0 last semester. Tom Ben will graduate in May. Whoop! He also tried out for and was selected to join the Aggie Wranglers.

K. Blake Lacy ’05 (Aggie Mom, Judy Lacy) was congratulated by Joe Townsend, Associate Dean of College of Agriculture & Life Sciences for earning the designation of "Distinguished Student" for the Fall semester 2003.

Jess Stinnett '06 (Aggie Mom, Jean Stinnett) transferred to TAMU last fall, changed his major, and made a 4.0 all in the same semester.

Liz Wardlaw ‘03 (Aggie Mom, Jane Wardlaw) is currently attending law school at SMU. Liz was in the top 25% last semester qualifying her for the Dean’s List.
