PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
Howdy,
Aggie Moms!
As
Thanksgiving rapidly approaches and I begin to count my blessings,
it seems I have more Aggie Mom friends to count than ever. Not
only have I gotten to know so many of you this year, but I just
returned from my first Aggie Mom Camp at College Station, where
I was able to make many new and wonderful acquaintances. I
met our special “out-of-state” Aggie Mom, Terry O’Connell from
Connecticut, who was one of my camp counselors. I was able
to get better acquainted with my roommate, Melinda Johnson, and
I met so many other wonderful moms, students, and other Aggies. While
it would be hard to say what was best about the weekend (it was
chock full of stuff!) I believe my favorites were the opening
session with the 1987 Yell Leader and his 6 year old son and helper,
and the wonderful closing speech by Dr. Ben Welch. That Yell
Leader from 1987 was so proud he could still get those white pants
on!! And his son knew every yell and every sign, and “helped” his
Dad teach us Moms how to hump it! It was a delight to be
present for that. And Dr. Ben had us all wiping our tears
with our breakfast napkins on Sunday morning as he elaborated on
how Aggie Moms make a DIFFERENCE in their students’ lives. I
hope many of you will consider attending in the future. This
is a great opportunity to see first hand some of the amazing talent
at Texas A&M.
Goody
Bag time is here, and we are looking forward to some FUN as we
prepare goody bags for our students this meeting. We will
be meeting at Trinity Lutheran Church this month, and our goody
bag containers will be pop-up clothes hampers. Please collaborate
with other Aggie Moms and bring items for 85 students. In
the past these bags have included popcorn, candy, gum, soup mix,
drink mix, crackers, teas, post-its, highlighters, index cards,
inspirational sayings, and more. Use your imagination for
items to help our Aggies to get through Finals with less stress
and more success!
We
will have a short business session, and take care of some details
for the upcoming Singing Cadet concert. We have many tasks
and ways to help with this project, and NOW is the time to volunteer
to help out through 1) hosting 2 Cadets, 2) purchasing
a sponsorship ad in the program, and/or 3) helping out with
phone calls or other preparatory activities. Call or email
Suzy Mears to volunteer! Most importantly, MARK YOUR CALENDARS
and TELL YOUR FRIENDS to attend the concert, January 12.
We
will also be discussing whether or not to take advantage of another
opportunity for Matching Grant funds from the Health Foundation,
to grow our San Angelo Texas A&M Mothers’ Fund Scholarship
fund with the San Angelo Area Foundation. As in years’ past,
for each $1 of new money raised, we can match with club funds
and receive a match of $2. from the Health Foundation. Each
$1 raised becomes $4 in the fund! What an exciting way to
offer even more scholarships to area students in the future!
Please
come and hear the details, and express your views on this important
opportunity.
Scholarship
Chairperson Penny Talley will also have information for us about
how students can apply for this and other scholarships.
Last,
but not least, I promise some fun Thursday evening – with a hula
hoop! Don’t miss it!
See
you soon,
Nevie

AGGIE MOM COOKBOOK
Over

This will give us plenty of time to get the recipes typed in, proofread,

once the book is delivered before taking it to Boutique in April
of 2007. The main theme for this cookbook will be occasions and
we will also feature favorite family menus. We have narrowed down
our categories to the following:
- Fall
Feasts and Festivals – pretty much self explanatory
- Girls
Night Out – Bunko, Bridge, Aggie Mom Sleepovers, Meetings, etc.
- When
They All Come Home – Holidays, Family Reunions, Celebrations
such as Christenings, Graduation, Birthdays, etc.
- Showers
and Brunches – Weddings, Showers, Brunches, Coffees, and Teas
- Tailgating
and Bowl Parties – pretty much self explanatory
If
anyone would like to submit an entire menu for one of the
dividers listed above, we will be charging $25 per menu submitted.
You can put as many recipes as you would like at no charge. For
more information on this, please contact Lanee Warrick at 484-3005 laneewarrick@aggienetwork.com or
