A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

The calendar says Fall has arrived, and there is a little nip in the air early in the mornings. It’s time to get involved with Aggie Moms!

The reprint of the cookbooks has arrived (1134 cookbooks to be exact). They make wonderful gifts, and Christmas is just a few months away.

We are starting something new this year. At each meeting, we will have an FYI segment. Last month, Janice Escue spoke about Aggie Mom Fish Camp. This month, Jane Wardlaw will talk to us about Aggie Football. In November, Claudia Dempsey, will speak about the Aggie Ring. Our club has a tremendous wealth of knowledge and talent. If any of you feel passionate or well informed about any aspect of Aggie Life and would like to share at a meeting, please contact me. I’m confident you will find all of these FYI segments most informative.

Don’t forget Goody Bag Time is in November. The day after Halloween is a great time to pick up some goody bag bargains! Also, some of the newer dollar stores have bulk buys on school supply items. We will probably have around 130 students ( the exact number will be in the November newsletter). The October meeting will be a good time to team up and share the expense.

See you on October 17!

Kay Young, President
944-7038

COOKBOOKS

The anxiously awaited Cookbooks have arrived. They will be available at all meetings or you may pick them up at Allen Young Office Machines (60 N. Chadbourne). If you can’t make it downtown during business hours, just call Kay Young (944-7038) or Paula Sweeten (659-8537). We’ll make arrangements for delivery. Due to the large volume already sold, we will have to charge sales tax this year. The new price is $21.65.

It’s still a great bargain, and the majority of the profit will be funding scholarships for our Aggies.

FYI Segment

This month the FYI Segment will be on Aggie Football. Jane Wardlaw has been attending TAMU footballs games since she was old enough to sit. She will speak on Football history, traditions and hopefully have hints on obtaining tickets.

OCTOBER MEETING

Our October meeting will be Thursday, October 17, 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Nancy Lester, Schleicher County Extension Agent, will speak about Scholarships and Financial Aid.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

Kathy Dillon, one of our members, has moved to College Station. When she sent in her membership form, she noted, “Adult contact in College Station”. She also noted that she comes to San Angelo every other weekend if anyone needs to send something to Aggieland. Her number in College Station is 979-774-3728. The San Angelo number is 944-3744. Thank you, Kathy.

TUTORING

The following is a list of off-campus tutoring services. San Angelo A&M Mothers’ Club does not endorse any particular business, but many of us have found some of these to be most helpful to our own Aggies.

4.0 and Go – 979-696-8886
Mr. Bills –
A+ Tutoring – 979-260-2660
TAMU Learning Skills Services – 979-845-4470 ext. 108

FOOTBALL TICKET CORNER

Several people are looking for football tickets and hotel rooms for all home games. If you have tickets or rooms that you do not need, please contact Kay Young at bkhyoung@wcc.net. She will try to match up tickets and people!

BRAGS

Jill Campbell has her Aggie Ring!

(If you have brags for the newsletter or the website, turn them in at the September meeting or email Laura Malloy at Aggies5@worldnet.att.net (or call at 949-0439) and the webmaster at webmaster@sanangeloaggiemoms.org. We’ll make sure your brag is posted to the web site and included in our next newsletter.)

RING OF HONOR – the Spirit Continues

This group is composed of moms whose Aggie’s have (finally!) graduated and want to continue the friendships they formed in our club during that time. They meet three times a year for lunch:

October 24, 2002 – 11:00 a.m. – Emery’s Restaurant
February 27, 2003 – 11:00 a.m. – Cheddar’s Restaurant
April 24, 2003 - 11:00 a.m. – Miss Hattie’s Restaurant

Please consider including these informal gatherings in your schedule this year. There is time to catch up on the latest activities of the club and offer your support. Please RSVP to Susan Clark any time during the week prior to each lunch gathering. Help continue this “Spirit of Aggieland” and continue to share in the pride we have for our Aggies and Texas A&M!
