WELCOME FROM OUR PRESIDENT
If you have ever wondered (and what parent hasn’t?) just exactly
what the Student Health Center has to offer our students, and how it
all works, this is your opportunity to find out. This month, Dr. Linda
Lewaski, Director of the Student Health Center will be present at our
meeting to fill us in on their services, and answer your questions.
Please come and bring your questions for this very informational program,
which will take place BEFORE the Business Meeting.
Following Dr. Lewaski’s presentation, we will (hopefully!) complete
our by-laws revision, and select organizations to receive our budgeted
$1000 donation. I still have a goal to have a 30 minute business meeting,
but by-laws discussion seemed to slow us down last month, so this month
we will have our program first, and then complete our by-laws discussion
and other business.
October is here, and with it those much anticipated cooler temperatures.
We are all enjoying dragging out the fall décor, and trick or
treaters will be knocking before we know it. October sees the hurricane
season winding down, too, and for that we are all extremely grateful.
Texas A&M has responded to great need with energy, organization,
caring, and compassion, and for that we can all be proud. Our students
have witnessed once in a lifetime (we hope) events that have provided
an education in life experiences that they could never get in a classroom.
I hope they were all positive ones for each of your students. President
Gates’s observations about the four weeks of Katrina and Rita
at A&M certainly confirmed what I already knew: Texas A&M is
a good place for our students to be! If you haven’t read his remarks,
email me and I will forward them to you.
I hope to see a standing room only crowd on Thursday October 13, 2005,
at the home of Georgia Williams, mom-in-law of Judie Williams, at 2619
Parkview, San Angelo. Standing room only!!? Wouldn’t that be a
happy problem!!? We will have food and fun at 6:30, hear from Dr. Lewaski
at 7 p.m. and have our business meeting (Can we have a 30 minute meeting?
Stay tuned…) following. See you soon.

WHAT’S UP IN OCTOBER
Our very special guest will be Dr. Linda Lekawski, Director of Student
Health Services at Texas A&M. We are extremely grateful that Dr.
Lekawski has arranged to come from College Station, and we hope that

Keeping our Aggies healthy is no small task, and I think we can all
appreciate the work of Dr. Lekawski and her staff.

DECEMBER 2005 GRADUATES
If you have an Aggie graduating in December, please call or email Nevie
Lacy (651-4532 nevnews@aol.com). Please be sure to include your Aggie’s
name and class year (which is not necessarily the year they graduated!)
MAROON OUT - Maroon Out Shirts Available at October Meeting
Maroon Out began in 1998 when the Cornhuskers of Nebraska visited Kyle
Field. The previous December, the Aggies played Nebraska in the Big
12 Championship game. Unfortunately the Ags came up short, but an idea
was forming in the mind of Class of 2000 Junior President Kyle Valentine.
He and a group of friends noticed how united the Nebraska fans seemed
dressed in solid red. Valentine suggested a "Maroon Out" to
unite all Aggies and beat the Cornhuskers and their fans. They wanted
to offer maroon shirts for Aggies who did not have one. Since the goal
was to create a uniting event and not to make money, the shirts were
priced at $5 each. On October 10, 1998, the Ags beat Nebraska before
going on to secure the Big 12 Championship and a Sugar Bowl appearance.
This year’s Maroon Out is scheduled for The A&M – t.u.game
on Friday, November 25. San Angelo Aggie Moms will have some of these
shirts available at the October meeting.
MONTHLY AUCTION
Each month we will be auctioning off an Aggie item. Last month’s
item was a signed copy of The Junction Boys which was won by Susan Clark
at a cost of $42. It was donated by Nevie Lacy. Thanks to both these
ladies!
This month we will be auctioning off a hand-painted gift basket containing
an A&M coffee mug, Aggie note pad and note/recipe holder, two Aggie
lapel pins and two Aggie charms. Reserve bid: $10.
If you have something special that would make a great auction item,
please contact Shelley Gregg at 374-4640 or her email address ShelleyKG@cox.net

NEW AGGIE MOM COOKBOOK
Over the next year San Angelo Aggie Moms will be putting together a
new cookbook with the delivery date scheduled for January 2007. This
will give us plenty of time to get the recipes typed in, proofread,
and submitted to the publisher. We will have time to proof again once
the book is delivered before taking it to Boutique in April of 2007.
The main theme for this cookbook will be occasions and we will also
feature favorite family menus. We have narrowed down our categories
to the following:
* Fall Feats and Festivals – pretty much self explanatory
* Girls Night Out – Bunko, Bridge, Aggie Mom Sleepovers, Meetings,
etc.
* When They All Come Home – Holidays, Family Reunions, Celebrations
such as Christenings, Graduation, Birthdays, etc.
* Showers and Brunches – Weddings, Showers, Brunches, Coffees,
and Teas
* Tailgating and Bowl Parties – pretty much self explanatory
If anyone would like to submit an entire menu for one of the dividers
listed above, we will be charging $25 per menu submitted. You can put
as many recipes as you would like at no charge. For more information
on this, please contact Lanee Warrick at 484-3005 laneewarrick@aggienetwork.com
or Debbie Lisoski at 469-3935 dlisoski@saisd.org.
We would like to have current members send in their recipes no later
than December 1.

Benjamin Knox has generously agreed to do the cover for the next cookbook.
He would like to have a commitment from someone in the club or the community
to purchase the piece ($2,000 -$4,000) and he will expedite it. If not,
he will do it at no charge and sell it from his gallery in College Station.
If anyone is interested or knows of anyone interested in purchasing

Academic Support Resources
If your student finds their mid-term grades not what they would like
them to be, remind them that there are many resources on campus for
students interested in improving their grades or study habits. From
tutoring in specific classes to general study skills, TAMU offers a
wide range of programs for students to choose from including:
On-line workshops for various study skills and test anxiety along with
other resources can be found at:
http://scs.tamu.edu/academic/LSC.aspx
Academic support including free tutoring and information on the writing
center can be found at: http://www.tamu.edu/00/academic/aaaaaj.html
Free one-on-one and group tutoring is available in the MSC. The courses
for which tutoring is offered varies each semester. For a listing of
this semester's classes and how to register, visit:
http://tutor.tamu.edu/ourcourses.aspx
Additionally, assistance can often be found for individual courses
in the department through which they are offered.
7 Habits Seminar
The Department of Student Activities is sponsoring the collegiate version
of Stephen Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People"
on October 7 and 8 This is an opportunity for students to learn time
management skills and to build their resumes by attending a nationally
recognized program that is free to students.
Students can register for this FREE seminar online at:
http://studentactivities.tamu.edu/stuactweb/sldrsubpages/seminarmain.htm
In Case of Emergency
Here is a tip for our many students with cell phones: Put in an entry
with the name ICE (In Case of Emergency) and use the phone number of
the person you would like contacted first in case of an emergency. Many
emergency response persons, including the College Station Police department,
will know to look for an ICE entry and it may save precious time in
contacting someone who would need to know of the emergency. If there
are several 'emergency' contacts to list, they can be listed by using
ICE 1, ICE 2, or ICE mom, ICE dad.
Student Information System
The "Parent Resources" section in the Student Information
System provides parents with helpful information regarding student enrollment
including: the student's course schedule, Frequently Asked Questions,
and more. This site is accessed in conjunction with the registered student
who can set up a password for their parent’s.
http://myrecord.tamu.edu/parentmenu.aspx
Q-Drop (drop a course with no penalty)
If approved by the student's dean or authorized representative, the
student may drop a course with no penalty (Q-Drop) beginning the 5th
class day through the 50th class day of a fall or spring semester. Q-Drop
forms are available from academic departments and the dean's office
within the college in which the student is enrolled.
November 4th is the deadline for Q-Drop for Fall 2005
A full-time undergraduate is defined as one who is enrolled for twelve
semester hours during a fall or spring semester. WHEN A STUDENT DROPS
A COURSE, THOSE HOURS CANNOT BE USED FOR VERIFICATION OF ENROLLMENT
PURPOSES. A student who falls below full-time enrollment may be in jeopardy
of not being covered under his/her parent's insurance, not in compliance
with immigration, etc.
Additionally, Students must contact their individual colleges concerning
"Q" grades currently on their record to determine how the
three Q-Drop limitation will impact their eligibility for additional
Q-Drops.
