A Letter from the President

HOWDY! Fall has arrived at last, and our Aggies couldn’t be happier at this time. The University had a holiday on Thursday, October 4, 2001 to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Texas A & M University. The Aggie football team is 5-0 with a recent big win over Notre Dame and Baylor at Kyle Field. I hope that many of you will be able to attend a home football game at Kyle Field sometime while your student is enrolled at Texas A & M. The Aggie Spirit has to be experienced, because words can not adequately describe it.

The loan money has been invested in CD’s; our club membership will make the decision as to how the loan fund will be best be utilized. The treasurer is looking into Permanent Endowments with the university.

If you have not joined our Aggie Mom’s club yet, I want to encourage you to do so soon. Your student will even thank you for doing so, as this year he/she will receive two food gift certificates worth $5.00 each, two goodie bags, and the opportunity to apply for one of our scholarships. Plus you as a mom have the opportunity to come hear encouragement from more seasoned Aggie Moms, meet new friends, and listen to interesting speakers. I hope that you think that it is as good deal as I do. Please call me or any of the officers for more information or questions about our club. We would love to get you more involved, and yes, there is a place for the “Empty Nesters” group of Aggie Moms. Watch your future newsletters for more information on this fun group. See you soon!

Gig ‘em, Valerie Sheppard ’76, President

COOKBOOK

By the time you get this Newsletter, we hope, for certain, that the Cookbook will be with the printing company. Due to circumstances out of our control, we were not able to get the cookbook mailed in time to assure Christmas sales. We were disappointed, the cookbook was completed, typed and proofed, however, the cover was not ready. The artist was unable to get the print finished, and since it was a donated print, a decision was made to hold off and wait on the artwork. We can offer gift certificates for cookbooks if you were planning on this for Christmas, graduation or wedding gifts. The cost of the book will run $20.00 and you can call Carmen or Kathy if you want a certificate. (Payment due and please don’t wait until the last minute.) There is a slight chance they could arrive on time, but it is doubtful. A special thank you goes to proof-reader, and typists. They did a rushed and terrific job and deserve a medal!!!

A PRAYER FOR THE TIMES

Lord, we pray for our country, our President, and our other leaders and rescuers during this uncertain time. We grieve with those who’ve lost loved ones and friends. Comfort them and comfort us and our sons and daughters who are so far away. If we cannot understand why this tragedy has occurred, how can we, as parents, explain this to our children who look to us for answers. Give all of us continued faith and the patience of Job. Help us remember that YOU are always with us, most especially during times of crises. For we all come to YOU as children praying for a world void of terrorists. May YOUR righteousness prevail so that the effect of it may be peace throughout the world and the result of it will be calm and trust among all humanities forever.
Amen ( written by Susan Clark for our club)

GRADUATE NOTICE

Please be sure to let us know if you have a graduating student in Dec. 2001 or May or August 2002. We have no way of knowing when your student graduates so that they may receive a graduation gift from the club unless you call us. Contact Kathy Dickson or Carmen Behrens as soon as possible prior to graduation.
THANKS.
