WELCOME FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Howdy Aggies!
Wow, what a great month August was. My darling daughter
packed all her stuff and returned to A&M for the Fall Semester. Bittersweet! Boy,
did it ever help the laundry loads and grocery bills at our house.
We had our first meeting of the San Angelo A&M University
Mothers’ Club 2004-2005 year on August 19th. A few
Freshman Moms were there, and we had a great time eating and laughing
together. I really appreciated those who attended. It
is so very important to have “Seasoned Moms” to reassure “Fish
Moms”.
One of the “Privileges” of Membership in the Aggie
Moms’ Club is that you will be asked to bring refreshments
to one of the meetings during the year. Please check in
this newsletter to see if it is your month to bring something to
share. Don’t panic—you don’t have to feed
the whole crowd alone—more than one member is given this
privilege each month. However, if you are unable to attend
the meeting, please make arrangements for someone else to either
deliver your donation, or trade months with you. Ah, another
Aggie privilege!
You won’t want to miss the September Meeting. We
will share valuable information about our Tutorial Scholarships
for students attending formal tutorial sessions at A&M. This
proved to be a great help to students last year. We
found that when the parents can offer outside financial help for
the students to attend these sessions, the students seem less hesitant
to stay on top of their grades by signing up for Tutorial sessions
early in the semester.
Also, at our September meeting, we will view a film entitled “Traditions”. It
is a wonderful explanation of the traditions that run so deep at
Texas A&M University. Even as a Former Student myself,
I never tire of hearing the wonderful Band music and seeing the
student body participate in this breathtaking video.
Every Mother is special to our club, and I hope that you will
chose to be with us at our next meeting on Thursday, September
16 at 6:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church on Loop 306 in San Angelo. We
need your input and spirit. Please come.
Gig’em,
Judy D. Turner ‘78
President 2004-2005

way into college life, develop leadership skills and create bonds
that will last a lifetime. Fish Camp started 50 years ago. On
September 10-11, 2004, Fish Camp will have a celebration for everyone
who has been impacted by Fish Camp over the last 50 years. If

PARENTS WEEKEND UPDATE
Due to a convergence of factors, a decision has been made to
change the dates of Parents' Weekend for Spring 2005. This decision
was made after much thought and consultation from both university
and community constituencies. The dates for Parents' Weekend 2005
are now set for April 8-10, 2005. Planners in the Department of
Student Activities say they recognize that individuals and organizations
who have made arrangements around the previous dates (April 22-24)
will now have to change them. They apologize for any inconvenience
this change may cause and appreciate any assistance in notifying
others of the new dates. Direct any questions to Kevin Jackson,
director of the Department of Student Activities at kevin@stuact.tamu.edu or
Sharra Durham, advisor to the Parents' Weekend Committee at sharra@stuact.tamu.edu.
Both may also be reached at 979-845-1133.
BONFIRE MEMORIAL DEDICATION Scheduled For Nov. 18
Dedication ceremonies for the Bonfire Memorial are planned for
2:30 p.m. on Nov. 18. All classes will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m.
so that students will have the opportunity to attend.
MAROON OUT
Maroon Out began in 1998 when the Cornhuskers of Nebraska visited
Kyle Field. The previous December, the Aggies played Nebraska in
the Big 12 Championship game. Unfortunately the Ags came up short,
but an idea was forming in the mind of Class of 2000 Junior President
Kyle Valentine. He and a group of friends noticed how united the
Nebraska fans seemed dressed in solid red. Valentine suggested
a "Maroon Out" to unite all Aggies and beat the Cornhuskers
and their fans. They wanted to offer maroon shirts for Aggies who
did not have one. Since the goal was to create a uniting event
and not to make money, the shirts were priced at $5 each. On October
10, 1998, the Ags beat Nebraska before going on to secure the Big
12 Championship and a Sugar Bowl appearance. This
year’s Maroon Out is scheduled for The A&M – Tech
game on November 13. We are currently checking into placing
an order. If you are interested, please contact Judy Turner
465-4332 or Lanee Warrick 484-3005.
