A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Howdy Aggie Moms!

By the time you read this, your Aggie will be back in class. I know you miss them, but aren’t those smaller laundry piles nice!

I’m excited to report that our August meeting was chock-full of new Moms. If you couldn’t make it to the August meeting, please join us on September 19th.

Your Board has met several times already. Our first objective is to support our Aggies, but we also want to support YOU, the Aggie Mom. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any Board member or “experienced” member. Most of us have been around a few years and we forget this “Aggie Lingo” is a whole new language to many.

We are going to try very hard to communicate via email this year. If you have an email address and forgot to put it on your membership form, please contact Nevie Lacy or Laura Malloy. In a few months, you will be receiving your newsletter and meeting reminders by email. If you don’t have access to email – no problem. Mark the appropriate space on your membership form and we’ll make sure your newsletter is mailed.

Again, welcome to the new Moms we met in August. I’m looking forward to meeting other new Moms in September and, of course, visiting with the “experienced” (I refuse to say “OLD”) Moms.

See you in September!

Kay Young, President

MEMBERSHIP FORMS

Please turn in your membership form on or before September 19, 2002 in order to be included in the annual club yearbook. You can mail them or bring them to the scheduled meeting on that date.

EMAIL

Electronic email Trial…Those of you who have signed up for email will receive the September newsletter by “snail” mail and email. Please let us know what you think. We anticipate that email will save the club almost $500.00!

DOOR PRIZES NEEDED

Everyone loves door prizes – and we need donations! If you are in Aggieland and see something that you would like to receive (in the $5.00 range), please bring it to Jeanne Begnaud at the next meeting.

SEPTEMBER MEETING

Our September meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall. Our Guest Speak will be Dr. Billy Warrick, proud Aggie Dad and husband of Aggie Mom Lannie Warrick. Dr. Warrick will help us learn about the real computer needs of our Aggies – do they need a laptop, what software is needed (as opposed to wanted!) and other such details. If you have any questions on this subject, Dr. Warrick will try to answer those questions. See you there!

GRADUATION GIFTS

If your Aggie graduated this past August, please call Kay Young at 944-7038. If you are leaving a message, please be sure to include your Aggie’s name and class year (which is not necessarily the year they graduated!)

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Cookbook – The cookbook is at the printer and hopefully will be shipped on September 18, 2002. Be ready to see those cookbooks when they arrive!

Prayer/Telephone – The Prayer Chain/Telephone committee will function as one. Details will be given at the September meeting. Stephanie Socha is the chair of this committee.

FOOTBALL TICKET CORNER

If you have football tickets or hotel rooms for the games at A&M that you don’t need or you need tickets and/or rooms, please call Kay Young at 944-7038. Several people are looking for tickets to the Nebraska Game October 26, 2002. Kay will try to match up tickets/rooms and people!

AGGIE MOM FISH CAMP

Whether you are a “fish” Mom (do you know what that means??) or an “experienced” Aggie Mom and you’ve always wanted to know more about Texas A&M and its traditions, now is your chance! Aggie Mom Fish Camp will be held November 1-3, 2002 at College Station. The registration deadline is October 1, 2002 and enrollment is limited. Registration forms will be available at the September meeting. Don’t miss this chance to attend Fish Camp like your Aggie did!

BRAGS

Jana Barnard is spending the fall semester in the Rocky Mountains earning some transfer credits and will return to the A&M campus for the spring semester.

Josh Bragg will be the president of the Association of Baptist Students (ABS) this year.

Ryan Allsup graduated magna cum laude in 2002 and is pursuing a Masters degree in Biotechnology at Columbia University in New York City.

Kevin Ripple ’99 and wife Joanne ’99 have a new Aggie, daughter Megan. Kevin is working on his Masters degree in Agronomy and plans to graduate this December.

(If you have brags for the newsletter or the website, turn them in at the September meeting or email Laura Malloy at Aggies5@worldnet.att.net (or call at 949-0439) and the webmaster at webmaster@sanangeloaggiemoms.org. We’ll make sure your brag is posted to the web site and included in our next newsletter.)

RING OF HONOR – the Spirit Continues

This group is composed of moms whose Aggie’s have (finally!) graduated and want to continue the friendships they formed in our club during that time. They meet three times a year for lunch:

October 24, 2002 – 11:00 a.m. – Emory’s Restaurant
February 27, 2003 – 11:00 a.m. – Cheddar’s Restaurant
April 24, 2003 - 11:00 a.m. – Miss Hattie’s Restaurant

Please consider including these informal gatherings in your schedule this year. There is time to catch up on the latest activities of the club and offer your support. Please RSVP to Susan Clark any time during the week prior to each lunch gathering. Help continue this “Spirit of Aggieland” and continue to share in the pride we have for our Aggies and Texas A&M!
